AUSTIN, TX - Deputy constables with the office of Travis County Constable Bruce Elfant arrested Child
Support Evader Edwin Jacobson Wednesday for failure to pay more than $24,000 in court-ordered child support.
The father of one was apprehended after investigators with Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott's Child
Support Division conducted surveillance based on anonymous tips to the Attorney General's web site.
"Texans will not tolerate parents who neglect their children," Attorney General Abbott said. "Parents
who refuse to pay their court-ordered child support must be held accountable for violating the law.
Thanks to Constable Elfant and his deputies, a negligent parent was brought to justice for failure to
support his son."

In 2000, Jacobson was placed on probation for failure to make court-ordered child support payments
as ordered by the court. In 2003, an arrest warrant was issued after Jacobson failed to appear for
a court hearing to address his noncompliance. In 2004, he was named a Child Support Evader. Jacobson
has not made a child support payment in more than four years.
Jacobson is being held on a $5,000 cash bond in the Travis County Jail. The bond, if paid, will go
to the mother and child involved in the case. Jacobson will be transported to Lubbock County to
face the pending charges.
A total of 79 Evaders, including Jacobson, have been arrested or located since Attorney General
Abbott took office in December 2002.
For a parent to be named a Most Wanted Child Support Evader, court-ordered delinquent support must
be in excess of $5,000 and an arrest warrant must have been issued. The location of the parent
must be unknown, and no child support payments made in the last six months. The parent must not
be involved in bankruptcy proceedings or receiving welfare benefits. The custodial parent must
sign a confidentiality waiver before the Evader can be added to the list.
