Bruce Elfant's many awards and commendations include: two Texas Association of Counties “Best Practices Award" for Exceptional Delivery of Services; Women’s Advocacy Project’s “Person of the Year;” Central Texas Society of Professional Administrators “Elected Official of the Year;” Justices of the Peace and Constables Association of “Texas Constable of the Year;” Austin Center for Battered Women (now SafePlace) “Person of the Year;” and a special commendation from the Texas Association of Domestic Relation Offices.

In November 2012, Bruce Elfant was elected Travis County Tax Assessor/Collector. He had previously served as Constable of Travis County, Precinct Five since 1993. Prior to being elected constable, he was the Family Unit Administrator for Precinct Five. Elfant is a past president of the Justices of the Peace and Constables Association of Texas and member of the Board of Directors of the Texas Association of Counties. He has also served as a board member of the Texas Association of Domestic Relations Offices and chaired the Austin/Travis County Family Violence Task Force.
